Great Lakes Line 5 Tunnel Project Advances with Permit Approval
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has issued a permit for the Great Lakes Tunnel project, a key step toward replacing Enbridge’s 73-year-old Line 5 pipelines currently located in the Straits of Mackinac. The permit includes requirements to minimize impacts on sensitive plant and animal habitats, including restoration efforts, monitoring, and construction practices designed to protect natural resources. The project will require additional state and federal approvals before construction can proceed.
